After giving a try to only two fairly recent Netflix shows (“Stranger Things”: completely abandoned after Episode 1 Season 3; “Wednesday”: gave up after Episode 1), my main question is: since when is the audience supposed to constantly “unpack Easter eggs,” deciphering tons of nods to other movies, commercials and shows and turning it into a wheel of fortune while watching some mediocre yet pretentious tv-drama? As a literary scholar, I love me some fun of playing with reminiscences and allusions, but modern commercial cinema has turned it to a pile of complete rubbish real quick. No, not all of us grew up with Nickelodeon or whatever is relevant to North America’s waves of preteen subcultures, and I’m not interested in this game whatsoever.
