Absolutely shocked and appalled by the handling of the case of Nicola Bulley, a 45-year old woman who disappeared three weeks ago on the river Wyre in Lancashire, by the police.
Instead of focusing on it, they are feeding a greedy public with sensationalist and bombastic “no-news” press-conferences every bloody day. As a result of this, a bunch of internet sleuths have turned into aggravating busy bodies that constantly trespass people’s properties in Nicola’s village and causing a public nuisance, while streaming their detective “chronicles” on YouTube and TikTok, revealing full residents’ addresses.
But the last straw to me was today when the BBC Breaking News (!) publicly announced that “after terminating her HRT menopausal treatment, Nicola had serious issues with alcohol.” Really, BBC? Really, Met Police? Why on Earth are we, as a public, supposed to know the most intimate details of someone’s life, which has nothing to do with us, but everything to do with your misconduct of the case?! Imagine for a second that it was you, whose health information and personal struggles were revealed to the widest circles of unknown strangers: sounds like a nightmare, right? Apparently, not according to the police, who claim that “these details, hopefully, will help to get Nicola back.”
No, they won’t: professionalism and impartiality will.
My deepest sympathies to Nicola’s family and loved ones: they are living in hell and have already asked the public not to disturb them. I don’t believe that the outcome of this case will be good: but there is hope. And, meanwhile, silence.
Lancashire police and BBC, do your job and stop leaking “saucy” details: it’s misogynistic, awful and lame. Shame on you.
