Kafka: 140 (En)

Today marks 140 years since the birth of a man who made the very idea of bureaucracy not only performative but inhumane, combining it with the most hideous nightmares. He was also one of the first literary figures of the ongoing Modernist era who introduced the public to the concept of body horror, when the transformation of a character into an insect was not just a mere metaphor of Defamiliarisation but something much more vivid and disturbing.
I am free and that is why I am lost, he said. And boy was he right.
Happy Birthday, Franz Kafka.
