Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities: S1E1 (Netflix, 2022)

Ok, watched the first episode of del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. It was mildly amusing, despite (spoilers ahead) the obvious satirical links to modern American politics (just imagine: not everyone is constantly living in social media’s echo chambers–shocker, I know, lol), which were a bit tiresome, and the “Ahnenerbe” (or name another nazy pseudo-mystical trash) references, which were laughable.
But that Gogolian schtick at the end that looked like the interactions between Khoma Brutus and Satan from his short masterpiece “Viy,” wasn’t bad at all. Overall, 10 out of 10 for visuals, 2 out of 10 for the plot execution.
However, the best part of the series was the prologue featuring the honourable Master Guillermo del Toro himself.
Let’s see what’s next.
