I got my copy of Vol. 1 of Journals by S.T.. which covers the period from 1974 to 1976, and it’s a fascinating read: you can see how Joshi emerged not only as a scholar (and, later, a leading authority in academic Lovecraftiana and Weird), but also a musician and a composer—a violinist! That was completely unexpected and even more intriguing for me. I love one of the entries in his miscellaneous notes (diaries, to be precise), which was written around the time I was born (December 1975), where he says: “Bear in mind, you chaps who are reading this, that this is only my musical engagements”, and this fragment is preceded by a variety of performances in which S.T. took part. Very wholesome outcome.
