Кромерские tutti quanti: ч. 3 (En)

And, of course, the very first thing we did after checking into the hotel was to go to the nearest cafe: you cannot be fully enrolled in Cromer without grabbing your crab sandwich, either with vinegar or salad and chips. I was so happy to see folks there enjoying themselves with their cream teas: such a contrast with the last year when pretty much all the places operated as takeaways only.

Looking at the lobby of our hotel, I was reminded of O. Henry’s “Transients in Arcadia”, “There is a hotel on Broadway that has escaped discovery by the summer-resort promoters. It is deep and wide and cool. Its rooms are finished in dark oak of a low temperature” etc. Although his story, funny and bittersweet in parts as usual, made a sudden turn at the end, the description of the old-fashioned hotel somehow resonates with ours perfectly, and much better than Christie’s Bertram.
